This is Burgs signature retreat that people return to time and time again year after year. There is so much extraordinary content in this course that it has served both experienced and beginner meditators alike for the last fifteen years. These have become extremely popular, so please book early so as not to be disappointed.

The Usada Healing Retreat is designed to be a full spectrum immersion course into the discipline, technique and energetics of meditative practice . Most meditation sessions are guided by the teacher and are supported by regular discourses which help clarify and explain the process that occurs whilst meditating. This enables the student to establish a stable foundation in meditation good enough to continue practice at home. Guided meditation CD’s are available at the end of the retreat if requested.

The subject of meditative practice covers such a broad spectrum of subtlety, that it allows each retreat to be unique in its own way (as guided by the teacher), while staying true to the essential core practices taught to improve concentration and to heal the body.

Many students have repeatedly sat this retreat over the years, and still continue to deepen their insight from this practice. The day usually begins at 6am everyday and finishes by 9pm with appropriate rest periods, and generally consists of the following schedule:

  • 7 or 8 formal meditation sessions with instructions (40 mins each with rest periods in between). The main objects of meditation will be the  breath to establish concentration; 4 elements practice on either the breath or body; or body parts meditation to heal the body.
  • Chi Kung or Yoga sessions daily to help open the body structurally and energetically. These classes can greatly accelerate the progress made in formal meditation.
  • 2 discourses each day. One explaining the mechanics and techniques of meditation and mental development, the other explaining in stages how the mind works and its effect upon us in our daily lives. The focus will vary from retreat to retreat covering the disciplines of both serenity and insight meditation, as well as the ways in which you can develop meditation as a healing practice.
  • Burgs and an assistant are always present to give help and guidance about your meditation that may arise during the retreat. There will be regular opportunities for group questions and answers about the mechanics and practical applications of what is being taught to ensure that the students know exactly what they are supposed to be doing.
  • There are two hours of free time in the early afternoon after lunch for walking or relaxing.
  • All food will be vegetarian and the group will eat together at 7.30am, 12.30pm for main meals and a light evening meal of soup and fruit at 6.30 pm.
  • The retreat will be held in noble silence for the first 6 days. Please see our ‘Code of Conduct’ for more details.
