The practice of loving kindness can help in many ways, especially during this global epidemic that we find ourselves in.
Loving kindness is a specific type of meditation that focuses on a generated feeling of love, for ourselves, for those around us, and even for those we have never met.
Guided instructions on how to learn and practice this meditation can be found here
This meditation package contains the following –
Meditation One – Settling into your meditation, and then sending love to yourself.
Meditation Two – Sending love to yourself and then to others
Meditation Three – Sharing the love to all.
Meditation Complete Guided Instructions – This is a meditation that sends love to yourself, those around you, those who are helping us in our time of need, and then sharing our good deeds with those who have passed away.
Anyone of these meditations can be used during the Mettathon. You can cycle through them or just play the one you like the most.
To practice loving kindness one would need to feel relaxed, calm and settled. This immediately has the benefit of releasing any anxiety, stress and tension that you may be feeling,. Even getting to this stage in our meditation practice can be quite a challenge for many, so don’t be deterred if it takes you a long time to start to feel settled. Give yourself as much time as you to relax.
Once you are relaxed, you can then make some reflections on gratitude to help generate a positive attitude within yourself.
The guided instructions provided will walk you through all of these steps.
Once you are settled, and feeling some sense of happiness, love, appreciation or gratitude, you can bring to mind others that you wish to share this feeling with. This can help them feel more settled and calm, and if they are ill, it can help give them supporting energy.
And if you fall asleep rather than keep meditating then don’t worry. It’s better that you do this than get frustrated about not practicing loving kindness. Just try meditating again, and keep trying until you get better at it. It does take time.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how to meditate. You can still try and do a little loving kindness to add to the pool that we’ll all be contributing to.
