Intermediate Art of Meditation Retreat (Level 2)

14th - 22nd April 2018 [A Few Place Left]

An opportunity for those who have attended our 7day foundation retreat to develop your practice further. We will take a deeper look into the body and learn the Four Elements meditation practice.

This retreat is designed for those of you who are confident in your foundation practices and feel ready to progress to a higher level. If you have done one or two retreats already with us and have a solid home practice then this retreat is for you.

Art of Meditation Intermediate Content:

Step 1: Skeleton Meditation: Detailed meditation upon the skeleton developing stable and reliable perception of the bones and consolidating both focus and sustained concentration.

Step 2: Muscular System: Detailed meditation on the muscles learning to clearly perceive and sustain attention upon them.

Step 3: Digestive System: Detailed investigation of the digestive system learning to feel deeply within the body directly perceiving the stomach, intestines, liver, spleen and other internal organs.

Step 4: Respiratory System: Meditation on the lungs and the breathing processes.

Step 5: The Circulatory System: Meditation upon the direct perception of the Arteries, Heart and Blood.

Step 6: Four Elements Meditation: The meditation on the Four Elements of Materiality is a very important practice. It was widely taught by the Buddha as a way of breaking down the perception of compactness in our experience and to open the doorway to genuine Insight Meditation. It is not often taught these days because it takes time and careful instruction to develop confidence in this practice. Once we have learned to perceive the body with wise attention, as the four elements of ultimate materiality, the doorway opens to a significantly deeper exploration of material states. It also becomes the basis for the deep Absorption practices known as the Kassina Meditations. Both higher levels of Vipassana and Samatha meditation are greatly supported once we have attained a level of competence with this practice.

Step 7: Developing a deeper relationship to the Four Elements: Learning to abide with sustained attention upon the different aspects of the Four Elements.

Donation for Teachings:

Since Burgs started to teach meditation in Asia, he has always offered teachings on dana (donation basis). You will be invited to make a donation to the teacher at the end of the retreat (anonymously if you so wish). This is a way of expressing our gratitude for the teachings that we have received, and a way to support both the teacher and the teachings so that they can carry on being offered to others. It is an important part of the retreat to take time to reflect on your experience whilst on retreat, and you are invited to make your own reflections on the value of what you have learned and so give accordingly.

Concessionary Rates:

We do try and support those who really are in financial difficulty and are unable to commit to the full suggested donation amount for shared accommodation. If you feel you qualify for this, then please email us about this during the booking process. Please note we would normally ask concessionary rates to attend retreats in the UK and not France.

Cancellation:

Please note deposits are generally non-refundable (under special circumstances we will refund you at our discretion). You can cancel anytime up to 4 weeks before the retreat starts and we will transfer your deposit to another event. If you cancel within 4 weeks of the event, then there may be a cancellation charge to cover venue costs.

Please note that single rooms will be prioritised to those who are sick and working with an illness. Again please enquire during booking process.

We will provide a pick-up and drop off from Perpignan train station / airport for those arriving and leaving at the start and end of the retreat.

Otherwise you must make your way to Arles-sur-Tech and from there we will pick you up at a specified time. Please plan your further journey times accordingly to coincide with our scheduled arrival and departure times, unless you are driving a car.

Please ask us for seasonal travel options as we’ll know what the best route is depending on the time of year.

Please let us know of any allergies you might have during the booking process. We will do our best to cater for these.
