What will be important in 2022 ?
Burgs makes some reflections on what will be important in the coming year of 2022.
What changes could we be making in 2022?
What different choices lie ahead of us this year?
So here we are, is 2022. How are we feeling folks? About the year ahead, I thought I'd just take this opportunity to share with you some of my reflections on what I think is going to be important in this coming year. Because the way I see it, this next year, is going to be more definitive and more important than the two years that have come before it, in determining the direction in which our lives are going to hit.
We've been through this pandemic over the last two years, we're going to come out of it relatively soon. And the choices that we make now, and in the weeks and months to come and for the rest of this year, are going to determine the direction which our lives and the lives of future generations are going to go.
It is an axiomatic moment in history. And it's really worthy of contemplation about where it is that we are at the choices that face us, and where we're going to go from here.
So a few things, more than a few things to contemplate, as we set out our store for the life that lies ahead of us. Now let's make no bones about it. Life has changed dramatically in the last two years, it will not be the same. It's not appropriate for us to hope that it will. So it's a certainty it's going to be different.
How will it be different? And will it change in a way that leads to our welfare in positive ways that lead to growth within ourselves as humanity? Or will it lead us further down the road towards the kind of atrophy we were looking at, before this pandemic, and the sort of shrinking that we've faced during it.
Now, one of the things I think is going to be absolutely crucial in all of this is our willingness to be honest. Not just honest with each other. But self honest. This is a time to look deeply into our lives and reflect upon what is really important. Because if we don't stand for that, if we don't put our energy and conviction behind the things that we are, or we feel are important to us now, They're going to slip through our fingers without us noticing it. This is not a time to go to sleep, and hope that you're going to wake up and everything will be better in the morning. It's not like feeling tired, my friends were a good night's sleep will restore us. We're tired, because we got ourselves very lost down a rabbit hole that has started to make less and less sense to us.
Now if we're really honest, well, I put it to you. Ask yourself right now. Be honest with yourself. Do you not feel, let's not even be suggestive, how are you feeling right now about the direction in which life is heading? And we split that up into life as life in general, our predicament as humanity here upon this earth and your life personally. What's the direction you want it to go in? And what's the direction you feel it's going in? And is there a disparity between those two things? And if there is, what can you do? What are you willing to do to close the gap between the direction your life's heading in and where you want it to go? Now we're going to have to be self honest here. This is not the time to just close our eyes, or put our head in the sand and just hope it's going to work out. That's apathy, my friends and apathy is one of the lowest forms of consciousness that we can fall into. It is not the time to pretend that we cannot see.
Now, I'm not suggesting that doesn't mean we're not confused. And I'm not suggesting that it doesn't mean we aren't feeling slightly overwhelmed by the prospects that face us. But one thing is absolutely sure, if there are things that you believe in, that are important to you, you're going to have to stand for them now. You're going to have to put some conviction behind your beliefs, and not lie down, or just let them slip through your fingers, because it's inconvenient to hold on to what you believe in.
So this is about authenticity. Honestly, I'm pretty sure that if you're reading this, something inside you knows that you've got to change, that we've got to change that something profound, broad, sweeping, deep, has got to change about the way we set out our stall. And if you've got a strong conviction about that, and you believe passionately in it, and you don't act passionately upon it, then we're going to be living in a quiet state of despair. Knowing that we are letting this opportunity to embrace the changes that we need to make slip through our fingers. And this is not the time for that.
Now, how many of you are compromised on your principles? For convenience? How often have we done that? Now, if things change in a way, we don't like it, or we don't want it to change, it won't be any good crying about it later, if we had in our hands, the invitation to stand upon our beliefs, and we didn't stand. Our classic example, it couldn't be more clear. And this has got nothing to do with my position on this. I don't have a position on this. Generally, I think this is absolutely a situation where everyone has to make a personal decision upon what they value and what is important to them. And not one of us should judge another without really knowing each other's predicaments and beliefs.
I'm talking about authenticity, I'm talking about standing by what we believe. Now how many of us, for example, did not want to take a vaccine, for health reasons? Didn't want to take it for health reasons didn't feel you needed to and didn't feel your children needed to. And then when it becomes inconvenient, not for health reasons, but because I want to take my kids on holiday, I took a vaccine and gave it to my children, not for health reasons, because I didn't feel I needed to. I did it to make my life easier. Now vaccine is for your health, my friends. And if you didn't want it, you should have stood by that. How many of you at times in your life are passionately wanted change. And yet, when faced with the opportunity of standing and being counted, so that that change might happen? Lay down and just let things go in a direction that we didn't really want them to go. Even in small ways in our lives, we can do this. I really want to make changes within myself, I can see where I'm not being authentic. And yet, it's inconvenient. It's hard. It takes determination. It takes courage. It takes grit some times to change the direction in which our lives are heading. Even though we know that that change of direction is for our benefit.
Now there is nothing more prone to bring us into a state of despondency than when we know we didn't stand for what we believed, and we carry a regret later, on account of it. Now, my friends, it is not the time to let these things pass by us. And look back in a year from now or two years from now and go, "What just happened?"
This life here on this earth that we humans are experiencing right now is one of the most unfathomably rare and precious and extraordinary things in all the universe in all creation that ever happens and it happens so rarely. And it's the most profound gift. If it comes to a point where the way that we are living our lives, is in violation of the very principles that life itself stands upon, that is weighty my friends and if we condone it and continue or continue to not honour it, then we're going to lose the power of that life as it courses through us. We're going to lose the intelligence that actually is trying to support us, we're going to lose our connection to something that has kept everything alive on this planet for billions of years seamlessly, without making any effort to do so. We are about to enter an age where a human life is takes an inordinate amount of willfulness to sustain, because we are so out of balance with the natural order of things. It is begging us to come back into balance and alignment, it is not asking us to seek a more imaginative or creative way to bend technology so that we can support ourselves willfully here. The further we get out of alignment with the natural order of things, the more unwell we are going to be, and the more unwell this planet is going to become. If we do not bring things back into balance, we aren't going to survive here much longer, no matter how ingenious our inventors are, they are not capable of creating that order that has supported life for billions of years.
Now, it always comes to this moment, where a human being becomes too intelligent for its own well being that it can interfere with the process that actually supports its life. Now, if we have to live in a self created bubble, it won't be long before that bubble cuts us off completely, from the real power that supports us as living creatures. Now, we can feel it, you can feel it inside you, you can feel the gap between authenticity and the way we are living. This way that we are living lasts for a finger click. There is nothing that we have created that will uphold life for anything more than a few brief years, a few generations. And over here, fading further and further away from us is an intelligence that has supported us forever, and would continue to if we don't realign ourselves around that intelligence and extract ourselves from the aberration that we have created. We are going to become the most dysfunctional species on this planet if we are not already.
Now I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But what you feel coursing through you right now is an expression of life. And if it doesn't feel right, it's trying to tell you something. So please, let's ask ourselves, what is this trying to tell us? And how do we need to change? Just sit quietly because somewhere inside you, you are learning to ask yourself that question openly and courageously. You are longing to stop turning away from it and pretending that question doesn't sit on your shoulder. You're longing to know that you are one of countless beings who feel the same way but have forgotten perhaps that they feel it.
So right now, ask yourself what do I believe in? Have I lost track of what I believe in, in the hope that some convenience is going to come along and carry my life and I'm not going to have to work really hard to place it squarely where I believe it should be. This is going to take a warrior's courage from every single one of us. And if we lie down, this will be over in the blink of an eye and we won't know what has happened to us. We'll come up gasping for air going what? And then it will be too late my friends. So now is the time. This year we will have to make those decisions, those choices and those changes that are really being asked of us if we are going to continue to live a viable life upon this planet for anything but a very short period to come. We are going to have to make deep and profound and quantum changes in the way we live, and our expectations and our vision of life and what it actually is, if we're going to build any longevity into our presence here.
It's happening right now. This is not next year, this is not in 2024, that we have to sit and make these changes and think about it and work this out. This has to be done right now, this moment. And with every step that we take from now, we have to retrace our way out of this rabbit hole that we've got ourselves in.
Now, there's no point in pointing the finger of blame anywhere. We are all complicit in the way that life has got to this point. We are all going to have to take accountability and play our part in working it out. So trust my friend's life has been here for an extraordinarily long time, and everything, everything that has lived on this planet has done so seamlessly without depleting it in anyway. And everything, the abundance of this planet has remained there for generation after generation, generations beyond counting. Not just humans, but every creature that ever came into being has trod this earth and it has not been fatigued or wearied for all of that extraordinary expression of life. Now we have exhausted this planet and exhausted ourselves. We have got it profoundly wrong. We have to honestly accept that with not blaming ourselves because we didn't know what we where doing. But we have to look clearly at where we are and see it now and go, This has got to change now.
Now, it may not be convenient to hear this. And it's not convenient to say this. I'm sure it will upset some of you. But before you pass it off as the rantings of someone who's got a chip on his shoulder or an axe to grind, stop and ask yourself, "Am I speaking the truth?". This is a deep and compassionate call to every single one of you to all of us to dig deep, to find what we are truly made of. Because we didn't find it yet and we're paying the cost of not finding it.
Now is the time to stand out. Not to stand up and fight, but to stand authentically in our centre, in our own hearts and live by what it's telling us to do.
So don't be overwhelmed. You're not alone. We are not alone. We are all in this together. It's in our hands, and we have to take that responsibility. So this year 2022. Let's be under no illusion. Let's find the courage to be those brave souls that in times to come, those generations that inherit this planet from us, will look back and say, not that we were the ones that undid the ground they stand upon. But we were the ones that put it back together again, so that they could stand upon it. Now if we do that, we will get to the end of our lives knowing that we lived well. And that we did what we came here to do.
Have faith my friends. Have courage, support each other Connect. Be creative. Be imaginative. Put all your heart and all your love into it and never give up. Never give up. Thank you.
