Spirit of the Yogi
Dear Friends
I would like to welcome you to another evening of Dharma sessions.
I feel this topic is a particularly important subject that I think is really worthy of reflection in these times as we all ask ourselves how we should be responding to what's happening now.
Not just to us individually, but to all of us and to the world around us. It is such an extraordinary time to be alive. Such a challenging time. So many questions being asked of all of us and here we are at a crossroads.
Many of you no doubt are in the process of reclaiming some of the freedoms that have been restricted for some time recently. So what conclusions have you come to? How have you laid out your store? What kind of vision have you for the life that lies ahead of you? What are your hopes and dreams, your aspirations?
You know, I've been teaching meditation now for over 25 years, mostly to a lay audience. And so I have to be honest, I've probably been a little reticent with regards to how strongly I encourage others, to take the path that I took, all those years ago. I've been acutely aware of the fact that I've been teaching Dharma to folk who are committed and engaged in a householders life.
But I've thought a lot over this last year.
I know many of you are sowing a seed, in your heart, and an aspiration, will have arisen at some point to look a little deeper into the mysteries of life.
To put a little more energy into unravelling some of its mysteries, working out for yourself, what this might all be about. You know, for centuries there has been a tradition throughout the world in all cultures, of those who went forth seeking to discover something within themselves, that we hear about... something that calls to us, something that some part of us has a strong sense lies within us but is hidden.
Behind some kind of veil, some smokescreen that we can't quite see through that keeps from us the deepest truths that lie behind our life. I haven't been that vocal in encouraging others to go forth on such a quest. I've merely taught meditation and Dharma, in the hope that through some kind of spiritual practice and inquiry, we might find a way to live more harmoniously with the life around us. But perhaps it's time to ask some deeper questions? Maybe even consider the idea that now is the time…?
Those folk of the past who went forth and strove earnestly not just to free themselves from suffering, but to discover a truth that might otherwise be hidden from us... a truth that every single one of us is breathing, with every breath we take. Since we first arrived here, in this life, a truth that sits behind our lives, supporting us tirelessly while we get ourselves into the muddle that we do.
So anyway, maybe just for the next 40 minutes...here is a little encouragement to those of you who feel the call of your heart, to listen to it, to let it speak to you... to hear what it's trying to say. And then perhaps even to act upon it. So sit, relax. Meditate, contemplate. Maybe, who knows, just maybe out of all this, it might be the time for the yogi once again…
For those who are ready to simplify their life and live of few needs, and find something within themselves, that we are no longer able to find in the world we have created...
A time to return to nature and to source and to our own deeper intelligence…
Perhaps, you've been ready for a long time, just waiting to give yourself permission to let go.
So let's tune in together and meditate for a minute…
Hold in your heart, your hope, and your dream and your vision for a better world.
Ask your heart to speak to you.
Open up and listen to what it's trying to say, to show you, to tell you.
Let the resistance that we have...
…the hindrances that we put in the way
... just for once, let us sweep them aside and turn with energy and courage towards a vision of a bright day…
...One in which we all delight in treading lightly and loving fearlessly.
May All Beings Be Happy.
