Foundations in Vipassana - 3day Online Weekend Retreat

Vipassana is the practice of insight meditation that looks to the basis of our life itself as the very roots of our suffering. The focus of such practice is the systematic removal of the causes of suffering as a route to the experience of full awakening.

This is a 3day intensive online retreat, guiding you through the foundations practice of vipassana. Teachings will be shared all day Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

We realise that not everyone can take time away from daily life, so the video sessions will be left available for a period of time, allowing you the opportunity to practice with them at your own pace.

Day 1 - Friday 6th November 9.30am - 5.30pm (UK time)
Day 2 - Sunday 7th November 9.30am - 5.30pm (UK Time)
Day 3 - Sunday 8th November 9.30am - 5.30pm (UK Time)

Course Fee - £50 plus a discretionary donation at the end of the course.

Teachings are offered on donation. If you are unable to offer the suggested donation then of course please give according to your means.

The retreat will look at the following themes -

  • How conditioned patterns of mind, including craving, aversion and attachment to self, produce suffering.

  • Concentration ( Samatha) develops concentration, while vipassana cultivates equanimity and works towards releasing those patterns

  • Looking at why resting in awareness, or attaining samadhi (concentration) alone is insufficient for lasting freedom from suffering.

  • Equanimity is being fully present with the experience without being disturbed by it, rather than becoming numb or merely accepting circumstances

  • Virtuous conduct is the basis of all successful spiritual practice

The weekend retreat will be hosted over 3 days, which will be broadcast live on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November. Videos will be made available for a period of time so that they can be followed as you are able to.

You can choose to engage in a more, or less intensive way depending on your available time, aspiration and capacity.

Burgs will be online to answer questions during the weekend.

All who have a stable meditation practice are welcome to join. There is a questionnaire during registration which will help us assess your suitability.

We ask you to approach this course with a mature attitude, and assume that those joining are in a place of relative stability in your current life situation.

If you are experiencing any turbulence or disruption in your lives that is unmanageable or overwhelming at the moment, then it is suggested to NOT follow this programme at this time. It is more appropriate to engage in more gentle practices such as the Stillness programme.

For those of you who want to know more about vipassana practice, here is an introductory discourse taken from the weekend retreat, which helps explain what vipassana is - What is Vipassana Meditation?
