Foundations in Liberating Insight - Curated Online Programme

Vipassana is the practice of insight meditation that looks to the basis of our life itself as the very roots of our suffering. The focus of such practice is the systematic removal of the causes of suffering as a route to the experience of full awakening.

The new Liberating Insight Course investigates how we might build the foundations that begin the process of preparing the mind to become receptive to principles by which we can reduce the tendency to cause suffering in our lives.

Rather than a traditional Vipassana course, the material looks at the pre-requisites to build a firm platform to begin investigating how we might live in a way that is for our welfare.

The lessons contain both discourses and meditations. The discourses will introduce the foundational themes that look at why we might decide to practice in this way, what conduct is encouraged and required for our welfare and how we should think and reflect on these core spiritual principles.

We will also start to investigate how we can develop the most positive attitude we can towards our life and how we choose to live it as we progress through the lessons. The meditations will support our insight reflections and hopefully bring to life these wonderful teachings.

The course officially starts 12th September 2026

Course Fee - £50 plus a discretionary donation at the end of the course.

The course will look at the following themes -

- What is the Buddha teaching us; looking at what is the ground to insight
- Learning Dharma as a householder and our relationship to letting go
- Establishing a foundation in virtuous conduct
- Maintaining a balanced life whether we feel good or bad - 3 day online retreat "Foundations in Vipassana"

The weekend retreat will be hosted over 3 days, which will be broadcast live on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November.

Burgs will be online to answer questions during the weekend.

You can choose to engage in a more, or less intensive way depending on your available time, aspiration and capacity.

All who have a stable meditation practice are welcome to join. There is a questionnaire during registration which will help us assess your suitability.

We ask you to approach this course with a mature attitude, and assume that those joining are in a place of relative stability in your current life situation.

If you are experiencing any turbulence or disruption in your lives that is unmanageable or overwhelming at the moment, then it is suggested to NOT follow this programme at this time. It is more appropriate to engage in more gentle practices such as the Stillness programme.

For those of you who are unsure as to whether you are suitable to join this programme, or simply want to know more about vipassana practice, here is an introductory discourse taken from the weekend retreat, which helps explain what vipassana is - What is Vipassana Meditation?
